about

Peace Everyone!

First of all, I hope all of you & your loved ones are staying safe & healthy!

Secondly, I just want to say thank you for all your continued support in purchasing and/or listening to all my projects I’ve been putting up on my Bandcamp page. That really means a lot!

Being that another Bandcamp Fridays is coming up again this week (October 2nd), I’d figured I put up another project. This time, I’m putting up an old mixtape series that I did in 1995....it’s called “U Call Dis A Mixtape?!” (Piece Of Sh*t). This was all recorded at “The Bomb Shelter”, a little small Pre-Production room that I had inside the Up Above Records office in Carson, Ca during 1995. Pretty much recorded a lot of the Visionaries demos during those days. You can also say this is a prelude to my “World Famous Beat Junkies Volume 2” mixtape in 1998.

Why did I call this mixtape series “U Call Dis A Mixtape?!”? I basically just wanted to play stuff I wanted to hear but at the same time, whatever happens, like if the record skipped (Yes people, this was all done on vinyl...lol), I just had to keep going or else I would have to start all over from the top; straight to the muthaf*ckin cassette tape deck! Yes, on a cassette tape....LOL!. I had no 4-Track Tape Recorder at the time so a lot of editing was done by manual pause tape editing style (until Vol. 4 when I finally got a Vestax 6-Track Tape Recorder; you can tell the difference). Also I had a lot of my friends & peers recorded their drops live with just a mic and them either rapping over records or off my beats directly from the SP1200 (The Visionaries, Ras Kass, Xzibit, Saafir, etc). A fun fact: my All-Star Line Up Posse Freestyle that was featured on WFBJ Vol. 2 was originally on U Call Dis A Mixtape Vol. 4. You can also hear my early progression in how I was mixing & scratching (I was learning still how to do the Flare scratch...didn’t have it down pat but you can still hear the early phases). Some of my mixes, remixes, routines, & beats at that time were kinda cringe-worthy when I listen to it back but I didn’t really care because I was trying to create & was excited to share with anyone who was willing to listen.

I’m really looking forward for you to hear a moment in time, a piece of my history. I hope you get to appreciate my growth as well as the music that was out at that time.
